At Southern Hills Medical Center, our professional team of physical, occupational and speech therapists is dedicated to providing a comprehensive rehabilitation program for individuals affected by injury or illness.

Physical Therapy

Our skilled physical therapists work with patients to prevent injuries and restore function following illness or injury. Individualized treatment plans are designed to help patients enjoy an improved quality of life.

Physical therapy services include:

• Assessment and treatment of:
  • Soft tissue, bone and joint injuries
  • Sports and work related injuries
  • Neurological disorders
  • Wound and bum conditions
• Tests and evaluations of joint mobility, muscle strength and endurance
• Therapeutic exercises, endurance training, modalities, functional activities and mobility training
• Patient and family education
• Prevention programs and screenings for community and work-site groups

Occupational Therapy

Our occupational therapists help individuals who need specialized assistance in achieving functional independence. Patients affected by illness, injury, handicapping conditions, and developmental or adjustment difficulties are treated through the use of exercise and training in activities of daily living.

Occupational therapy services include:

• Assessment of living/working environment and adaptation recommendations (equipment, devices, therapeutic activities, etc.)
• Treatment of traumatic and repetitive injuries of the hand and upper extremities
• Exploration of vocational skills
• Aid in maintaining and improving endurance through energy conservation and work simplification techniques
• Structured verbal and nonverbal activities to establish acceptable coping and life management skills
• Sensory integrative therapy to improve motor development, self-concept and communications skills

Speech and Language Pathology

Our dedicated speech/language pathologists can evaluate and treat a wide range of communication problems. Addressing the skills needed for meaningful interactions and future learning, our speech/language pathologists can help patients recovering from strokes, head injury or disease.

Inpatient and outpatient services include:

Speech pathology; assessment and treatment of difficulties relating to: motor speech, fluency and voicing; language comprehension and usage; intellectual/communicative functions and behavior; swallowing (dysphasia); tests and evaluations of cognition and problem-solving skills; pre/post counseling for laryngectomy; speaking valve placement
